Ashdown secured the delivery of Forage Farm Shop & Kitchen through a competitive tender process, demonstrating its specialist expertise in timber frame manufacture, erection, and cladding systems. The project formed a significant expansion of the Penllyn Estate, creating a flagship destination to support its growing commercial operations.

This was a full greenfield development, with Ashdown responsible for the entire construction lifecycle—from groundworks through to final fit-out. Working closely with the project architect, Ashdown also contributed to the design of the timber frame and key construction elements, ensuring both technical excellence and alignment with the architectural vision.

At the heart of the building is a predominantly glulam structural frame, intentionally left exposed to form a defining architectural feature. This approach created a bright, open environment that enhances the customer experience while showcasing the natural beauty of timber construction.

The design delivers a high-quality farm shop and restaurant environment, reflecting the character and expectations of the Vale of Glamorgan.

The project was completed on time and within budget, resulting in a modern, award-winning facility recognised by Local Authority Building Control for its quality and execution.
